I hiked in to Trillium lake saturday afternoon. I left just before sunset for some reason and missed a beautiful pink Mt. hood, which I saw from the parking lot. It was a perfectly clear afternoon and I thought the sunset would be uneventful.
I went straight up to Timberline lodge. It was 24 degrees when I left the Trillium lake parking lot and 44 degrees 15 minutes later at the lodge, 2000 feet higher, and an hour after sunset. Strange.
This is Bruno, the lift next to Timberline lodge.
btw: This time of year at Trillium lake you have to park next to hwy 26 in a parking lot and hike in. It took me 30 minutes in and 40 minutes out with the incline. Most people had either snow shoes or xc skis. Snow shoes are more of a hassle right now with the packed snow. They're better in new snow. Hiking boots worked fine for me.
