103/2009: Spicery

103/2009: Spicery by helloyarn.
From my hand-dyed Shetland wool top in the Spicery colorway.

worsted weight 2 ply
10 oz., 500 yards

This is kind of fractal-spun. I didn't split the fiber down the middle lengthwise, just broke in half . I stripped one half and spun the other from the end. This should make nice wide stripes.

I will make a striped vest for Mr. HelloYarn with this and some Shetland yarn I bought 1.5 years ago when I went to Ashfield, MA for a cheesemaking class. Who knew that now I'd be living in the next town over and the farm would be down the street from the place where we go for awesome pizza?

I put the yarn in the sink to soak the moment I finished spinning it and immediately wound a ball of the Shetland and started the vest.

It's so funny, because he wears Carhartt's almost every day. He'll be camouflaged on the couch like I'm camouflaged on the bed when it's sporting its gnome sheets and I've got my matching pajamas on.

Hee! I am still plugging away like crazy on the ripple, but that's a boring thing to photograph over and over. I am still mad at that yeti toy, which harshed my buzz. I need to make potholders, still, though!

Is *that* what fractal spinning is? I learn something new every day. Nice, spicy colors, Adrian. Can't wait to see the vest.

For fractal spinning, I think you're supposed to split the fiber down the center lengthwise, then spin one side from the end, as is, and split the other side into thin pieces. So, similar, but not exactly.
