Meal Prep

Meal Prep

I have come out of my dread lurgy HUNGRY. Today I decided to roast a bunch of vegatables, prepare some grains, and make a bunch of different sauces. For the next few days, we can reheat the veggies and grains with whichever sauce strikes our fancy.

For veggies, I roasted carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, and sweet potatoes. For grains we have quinoa (I got a cool-looking tricolor one) and brown rice. For sauces, I made a milder version of my peanut sauce (made milder and saucier with the addition of chicken stock), a milder version of this soy ginger glaze (I added chicken stock to this, too, and thickened with cornstarch), a miso dressing (with added ginger), and 101 Cookbooks' Magic Sauce.

It's all freaking delicious.

Sick Knitting

Sick Knitting

I have been sick like you read about and couldn't do anything more complicated than stockinette stitch. I did manage to finish a couple of projects, though!

The yarn's all handspun, but not by me. The mittens in the back are made from some super yummy yarn spun up by Vera and the knee socks in the front are made from a mix of Southern Cross Fibre wools (Horizons and Arms Crossed) spun up by Moa. People who give you yarn are AWESOME.

No Dignity

No Dignity

Pippa loses it when someone is scratching her properly. Under the chin in front of the woodstove? Yes, please.

She's been giving me fits lately. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with the hair on top of her head. It's super fine and suddenly, it was matted. I'd brush it out, it would mat again. I finally figured out that she was managing to rub the top of her head on our wool rugs. Yesterday, when she got her bath, she got a liberal dose of conditioner and yay, all fixed!

Freeform Leek and Cheddar Muffins

Freeform Leek and Cheddar Muffins

*recipe from Local Kitchen*

I used a young leek instead of the red onion, white and wheat flours, and cheddar, because that's what I had on hand. Oh, and Greek yogurt. I had to add a little half and half because they were too dry, no doubt from the thickness of the yogurt. I think this all means that you can't really screw up this recipe, as long as you're gentle with the dough.

Delicious!

Winter Cleaning

Winter Cleaning

This morning was a morning for washing curtains and sitting on the floor in front of the wood stove and tearing pages from magazines so that they could be recycled. It's been strangely warm these last couple of days (all winter, really), which no doubt brought on this burst of energy.

That hanging lamp is having a bath, then Pippa is. Shhh, don't tell her.
