Coenonympha pamphilus

Coenonympha pamphilus

ENG: Small Heath

-----

Present from North Africa to Siberia, in Portugal exists throughout the country but rather dispersed. Undemanding is not, therefore, threatened. It does not open its wings when at rest, ever.

Scattered but locally common, this is a bird that inhabits our lakes from north to south. Mostly vegetarian, the Coot reproduces two to three times a year in what appears to be a strategy to combat the high predation that it suffers.
