Look at me, I'm Caspar David Freidrich!
This is the Metolius Rivine in Central Oregon. The hoodoos on the right (and the big one in the center) formed as layers of volcanic ash from Mt. Jefferson (left) were covered by a layer of heavier rocks, compressing and protecting the earth underneath them from erosion.
