Damn Anti-Piracy

Damn Anti-Piracy by Michael Heilemann.
Never before was there as good a reason to pirate movies as the (really really bad) anti-piracy ads I have to sit through when I've bought an original DVD. (entry).

Hate those adds. Are they never going to stop? Hope to get a better player soon, who can skip it.

My next DVD player will be one that starts at the menu or lets you skip to the menu at any time -- even if I have to buy one from Hong Kong. "Action prohibited by disk" my ass!

This actually just happened to me. I picked up all the Arrested Development DVD's which I have seen a billion times. I felt I liked the series so much I kinda "voted" on whats good by paying for it and I find myself being treated to this insult. I will never pay for content that is protected in any shape or form again. Im gonna go with torrents until these f*ckers get their act together.

(I did however find that VLC goes straight to the menu without bothering me with the RIAA-crap)

And if I buy a copy of something, I don't want a bunch of dumb ads on it, either.

Similat thoughts here. I bought the disc, please let me watch the movie.

Now I just put the movie on, go about and do something else for a while and then come back to check whether the movie can actually start.

100% correct - and you can't even skip past them, or any other crap they deem you must absorb.

In regards to the argument that rentals make it make sense, generally speaking rental dvd's are produced as a separate batch, often times with ads for other movies injected in to the beginning. There is no fair reason for this rubbish to be on consumer dvd's.
