Monocular 6101 |
A series of images taken using an ad hoc
assembly of a Nokia 6101 cellphone
fastened with insulation tape (or often
just held) to the right eyepiece of a
pair of Chinon 8 x 30 binoculars (8x
magnification through a 30mm diameter
objective). This effectively adds a
telephoto lense to the 6101,
considerably reducing the viewing angle
and depth of field apparent in the
image. A variety of colour fluctuation
and fringing effects occur, depending on
the alignment of the 6101 lense with the
binocular eyepiece, the intensity of the
light coming from the subject and the
amount of light allowed to leak in from
the sides. It is possible to manipulate
the image in real time, in a very
analogue, organic way, bending and
twisting the connection between the two
units until the image looks and feels
right.
The images have not been cropped or
resized.
