Hafnarfjall seen from Melasveit

Hafnarfjall seen from Melasveit

Last Sunday I felt adventurous and decided to just drive off and shoot the sunset from a spot I've never visited before. After driving for 25 minutes I arrived at a farm called Belgsholt and asked the farmer if he was ok with me snooping around on his land. I walked a bit but didn't find a strong spot for an image but the beach and the mountains still looked beautiful enough. :)

Volcanic sunset

Volcanic sunset

Sun sets behind Mt. Hafnarfjall in a thick layer of volcanic ash last night. Crop from a shot taken out of a car window. It's another "I wish I had a longer lens" shot.

Ash over Hvalfjörður

Ash over Hvalfjörður

Yesterday was exactly one year since the last volcanic eruption started (in Grímsvötn) and Iceland celebrated with filling our lungs with myst of ash. The source of the ash is most likely the highlands where most of the snow is probably melted by now. I was fishing last night but had my camera with me. The scene screamed for a long lens but I was only equipped with rather short lenses. Image taken with Carl Zeiss 25mm f/2.8 ZS on Canon 5D Mark II.

Hafnarfjall

Hafnarfjall

And now in color! :) This image is shot on the opposite side of the pipe (comapred to my last image upload). A bit more difficult scene to expose (and process) but more color. :)

Kind of wish I had a 3-6 stop ND because my Big Stopper (10 stop) was too dark here. I would have had to use ISO 800 and 3-5 minutes to get a proper exposure (at f/11). Probably my next gear purchase.
