And Tango Makes Three has the distinction of being the most challenged book for 2006 , according to the American Library Association.

It's a picture book based on a true story about two male penguins in New York's Central Park Zoo who became a couple, built a nest and tried to hatch a rock. The zoo keeper replaced the rock with an extra penguin egg and the two penguins had their own baby, Tango. It takes two to Tango, you know.

This book won the American Library Association Notable Books Award for 2006 and was nominated for the Lambda Literary Award for 2006.

I remember reading about those penguins in the news! I didn't know they made a children's book out of the story, but it sounds wonderful.

I never even heard of this - real time or the book.
Hmm I wonder if it was the book's 'summary' which got it banned, or does the book text say "fell in love"? Males can certainly bond, and bond very closely, without having mounted each other.
Sounds like a wonderful story! ^_^
