Sink Your Boat (Shooting JPEG) - Britannia Shipyard X132e

Sink Your Boat (Shooting JPEG) - Britannia Shipyard X132e

This is folklore from ancient China. A military general and his army was sent by the emperor to fight a war against the invading enemy.

The army needs to cross the river in order to fight the enemy. The general wants to show his commitment and decisiveness on winning the war. He orders his soldiers to sink the boats after crossing the river. This signals that they can have no way return but winning the war.

Somebody claims that JPEG is like "digital slide film" because it has little elasticity in adjustments. Once your exposure, white balance or other settings are wrong, you would be difficult to adjust in post-production.

You need to do it right on the scene. Do you want to take the challenge and sink the boat by shooting JPEG only?

This is the sunken boat at Britannia Shipyard taken with my Fuji X10.

Have a great Sunday!

Seagull Talks On Photography - Minimalist Seagull Britannia Shipyard N8044e

Seagull Talks On Photography - Minimalist Seagull Britannia Shipyard N8044e

I had a walk in Britannia Shipyard yesterday and met with this seagull. He looks like a wise bird having good photographic eye and I consulted him about photography.

Man: Do we need 1Dx or D4 to make the best pictures?
Gull: No!

Man: Do we need ISO 204,800?
Gull: No!

Man: Do we need F0.95, F1.2, F1.4 or even F2.8 lenses to make good pictures?
Gull: No!

Man: Do we need Photoshop, Lightroom and RAW?
Gull: No!

Man: Do we need 108 bit, 1,800MP 8" x 12" super-large format sensor?
Gull: No!

I feel something wrong. So I asked a skiill test question.

Man: Are you a seagull?
Gull: No!

Oh no! He is telling all the lies about photography!!

Have a happy happy weekend!

The Giant Columns - Sagrada Familia Barcelona N3694e

The Giant Columns - Sagrada Familia Barcelona N3694e

Gaudi loves nature and gets a lot of inspirations from natural forms into his architecture.

When I visited Sagrada Familia in 2010, they had a featured exhibition on Gaudi and nature showing how Gaudi had his designs inspired by natural forms.

The giant columns in Sagrada Familia are resembled to the big trees with branches at the top.

This is my shot at Sagrada Familia from my 2010 archives.

Happy Friday and weekend!

See The Beauty From Inside - Sagrada Familia Barcelona N3727e

See The Beauty From Inside - Sagrada Familia Barcelona N3727e

For most of the visual arts (such as painting and sculpture), people will admire the artwork from the outside.

It is architecture that you can literally go inside the artwork and appreciate the beauty of it inside out!

I went to Sagrada Familia, the most famous unfinished work by Gaudi during my 2010 vacation trip. We climbed up the towers by elevator and then walked the stairs down. This is one of the views inside the tower.

Happy Wednesday!
