Having seen a GBH spear a fish, I'd agree. But its eggs belong to the fox. Cool series.

Dude! What I wouldn't give for some fox pics like these. Excellent captures - all of 'em!

PS I've got $100 bucks on the bird. Factor in the 18" knife on its face, the reach of that neck, and the ability to fly and fox should just head for the weeds.

Great comment photos on the red. I like the fox's expression on the Main shot as the heron takes flight. I have a nest of Fox near my home, but never have good light when they are out!

@rattlinantler - I have never seen a Red Fox in Illinois (20+ years now). I found what I suspect to be a fox den at Springbrook Prairie. I see fox often when I leave the state. I have read that the coyotes have displaced many fox. Also, the GBH was landing for this shot. I was taking shots of the fox when this guy flew into view.

Amazing captures - as always.

There just arent as many fox around as there used to be. I see some around central Illinois, but not as many there either.

Holy sweetness! This is straight out of a fable, I am sure of it. Maybe they are meeting to write a new story? Hmm... or for the fox's dinner..

To catch both these animals in one shot is fantastic. I can't help but wonder how this scene unfolded. The fox seems to be thinking out its' next move carefully.
