Wild Turkey

Wild Turkey by Hard-Rain.
Took a family vacation to Maryland in the Assateague Island area. I got up early each morning for some wildlife viewing before hitting the beaches with the family. I came across a family of turkey as I was driving back from Blackwater Wildlife Refuge. This one flew into a tree for a minute while the rest ran into the brush.

Dude! Looks like the little one is ready to fledge.
Re Blackwater, Assateague: was there last November - great area! My brother lives outside Baltimore so we also went to Coniwingo Dam for bald eagle shots then down the DelMarVa for snowy geese, etc. Here's a link to his picks from there and other parks in the area. Have fun!

What a cute little baby turkey! You captured it nicely!
I love to see them when they are about half grown, to watch them run- it's hilarious... kinda reminds me of the raptors on Jurrasic Park : )

Great shot!! I have seen startlingly few poults around in my area this spring. I have seen plenty of hens, but almost no little ones.

Great find and what excitement! It is always a pleasure to find poults and have them sit still.

Excellent find! I run into a lot of turkeys whenever I go down to Starved Rock in the winter time looking for eagles. I've never seen a little one like this before, though. Excellent find!

I've never seen a baby wild turkey, so it's great to see your great, clear shots. Thank you Brian. By the looks of these posts, you had a good vacation. Glad you had some family vacation time. :)
