Motivation
What has been your motivation to go to school?
A large percentage of the girl children who go to the schools, are motivated to go because the government offers them this cycle.
It has has an affect in the rural family too. The family supports the girl child going to the school, as that way they get the bicycle in the family. After the girl is back from the schools, the family uses the cycle for various purposes.
I am often surprised at these stories. But am glad that even if the families are gaining out of the whole deal, at least the girls are still getting to go to the schools.

I often get to feel this.
The children in these schools, may not say it, but there is an immense sense of satisfaction in the very fact that they do get to attend the schools.
They may not say it, but you know that they are very content.
And I fee nice and get motivated to spend more time with them.

Interact with Us
Amongst the other happy moments, one of the times when I feel it the most is when I am able to convince others to also be concerned about a social cause.
The place where I come from, has quite a few engineers and doctors. The people you see in the photograph, standing in front of the class are engineers from colleges like NITs IITs and other engineering colleges.
And trust me, it is such a great experience to see the school students interact with us.
I have succeeded in motivating a few other guys like me, to go to these schools whenever they can, and just talk to the students.
I hope to continue doing it in a larger scale in the times to come.

A Portrait of Hope
One of the challenges that I while doing the photo documentary projects is that I have to handle atleast two things at a time.
One is to be observant of the things around you and see through the view finder, and not miss out on an opportunity to click pictures. At the same time, one has to be alert to what the person is saying.
This challenge will perhaps be solved when I have an assistant to accompany me on the projects.
Till then, I am glad to be just shooting the portraits of hope that these situations provide. I might not be able to recall their conversations in detail, but I know that they are all stories of hope.

Rise Up
One of the most tough things that I face during my talks at schools in rural Bihar, is to involve the students in interaction with me. All I ask them is to ask questions. I open it to anything. Needless to say, not many do that.
However, there is always one or two courageous students who rise up and ask. And that's when you know that you have touched a cord with them and they value your presence there.
