Lateral Moraines

Lateral Moraines by H4NUM4N.
The peak in the centre of the range of Mountains is Mount Baldwin. The raised ground in the middle of the scene is formed of lateral moraines.

A lateral moraine is formed from the debris that falls onto a glacier and is moved along it laterally as the glacier flows down the valley. When the ice melts the lateral moraine is deposited.
I loved geography at school. I think that's why I enjoyed this days drive from Death Valley to Yosemite. It was like driving through everything I'd learnt in O and A level geography classes.
