Showtime!

Showtime! by _Hans van de Vorst.
| B L O G |
www.hansvandevorst.com

I was simply stunned seeing this guy standing on this solitary(!!) rock IN the Grand Canyon. The canyon's depth is 900 meters here. The rock on the right is next to the canyon and safe.

Watching this guy on his thong sandals, with a camera and a tripod I asked myself 3 questions:-

1. How did he climb that rock ?
2. Why not taking that sunset picture on that rock to the right, which is perfectly safe ?
3. How will he get back ?

I have a photo of (3)... and I will post that the coming days.

Shot at ca 50 meters with 200mm lens.

The Grand Canyon, Arizona. All rights reserved © Hans van de Vorst.

Just saw it on the front page of Explore, so thank you all.

Try to answer the 2. (. Why not taking that sunset picture on that rock to the right, which is perfectly safe ?)
The point is to do something that the others didn't before, pioneer spirit, get the view that the others can't. Then, maybe he would have climbed there even without a camera, just for the view. Now since he is a photographer. There is a famous Bridge in a canyon were I come from, some centuries old, beautiful and it simply invites to be photographed. Now, you can't imagine were people cliimb for the simple reason of capturing a new perspective never captured before. Way to progress. :)

My guess is that he was dropped there by the helicopter chartered by the advertising agency that hired a third photographer to take his photo for a magazine ad.

He may have capture a more "unique" shot, but you, my friend, have a shot with a story. And this one is magnificent.
