52.15 - you are my sunshine

52.15 - you are my sunshine by This Year's Love.
I had no idea what I wanted to do when I took the dogs outside in the backyard after I got home early from work. I don't have to work until Tuesday afternoon! This is my first Saturday off in a year!
But the light was inspiring. I sat in the grass. The weather was beautiful. The sunlight in my backyard at sunset is magical.
The dogs are not at all pleased with me at the moment because we didn't go for a walk today. The funny part is that they've gone for a lot of walks in the last month and a half. Before it was a miracle to walk them once a month. There were always excuses and extenuating circumstances. But now those are out the window. We don't go for time, we go for distance.
Before I could make a few blocks stretch into 40 minutes. Now I'm capable of walking the pack 2 or 3 miles in an hour. All of the dogs are physically fit--I keep them skinny on purpose--especially Judah because she has very bad joints. I, however, am fat. They are a big motivation for me. If I don't feel like working out, I still need to find the chance to take them on a walk because they deserve it. (Plus have you ever tried living with three dogs--let alone three BORED dogs?? it's any wonder I can keep my sanity. And thankfully I love spending time with them as much as they do with me.)
Judah actually starts panting at the pace that I walk now.
Today there was no time for a walk and so I'm getting the attitude from them--especially Judah. She's the worst.
There she is squeaking the taco toy at me, tapping my arm as I sit here, letting me know that it's unacceptable to keep them cooped up in the house when there are trails to blaze. Little do they know mama's home for the next three days!!

This is extremely well done. I love the lighting, shallow dof, framing, but mostly the expression on the dog's face.

As for your story, I totally understand about the walk thing. I take my two boyz on a run on my days off. They really look forward to it. We run 2 miles per day. Just like you said, they are my motivation, if I don't feel like running, I look and them and know I'm letting them down if I don't. I work 12hr shifts at a hospital and have 3-6 days off in a row, are you a hospital worker too?

beautiful. The lighting and dof are perfect. And I know what you're saying about bored dogs...and i have 4. At least when mommy lacks the energy they have each other to beat up

Wow, what wonderful lighting and DOF to go with that great pose! The funny and great thing about dogs is the more you walk them the more they expect :)

I love the light, the DoF, and the cute head tilt! But I must confess, my favorite bit is the drool. I heart soggy doggies :)

you really caught beautiful lighting for your beautiful babes in the backyard. i envy you because i've wanted my very own dog for my entire life & our current rental (or renting in general) doesn't much allow for it.

the tones and wonderful light to this picture are just stunning, they make her look like an angel :) she is a gorgeous girl, and it's great you're getting out and walking them. I know I had trouble getting started doing that at first, but then I really knew they counted on me to get them out there, and Sheba just stares until we go on our walk. I feel so guilty when I don't take them..I wasn't going to today because I need to get my homework done, but now that I've seen this I will be on my way...happy walks to your pack and you!

Great Shot and EXCELLENT light

Thanks for sharing your story. About four years ago, I started walking once a day.....and lost quite a bit of weight. My two goldens would pull the leases off the coat rack if I didn't take them. How can I say no to that!

Good Luck on your journey!

I haven't been "flickr-ing" much this week but I see the comments and faves and really appreciate them. I'm so happy how this came out more because it's a beautiful photo of Judah rather than just a nice picture :)
and yes, I loved the drool too--which is why I picked this one over some others without drool!
