Northampton State Hospital
![]() The building on the left was added some time after the Kirkbride was built. I don't know all the details but I believe it was originally used as a tuberculosis infirmary. There was a similar building at the end of the opposite wing, although that one was more closely connected to the Kirkbride.
The enclosed walkway connecting this building with the Kirkbride was probably added even later, but I'm not sure of that either. Northampton certainly was a rambling old building with lots of such additions. It made the place a bit of a labyrinth. Commentsjulie.bissell says:Labyrinthine is an understatement! I used to
