once upon a time.........

once upon a time......... by *hb19.
my son & I went for an early morning shoot in the desert......from a distance we spotted
this abandoned shack ........maybe at one time some lucky pioneer called it "HOME"..... we
couldn't get closer & had to shoot from the fence.......see comment below ...........there are
still many homesteads left standing throughout the area............

(see map for location, it is on the edge of the Mojave Desert)

to all my friends .....enjoy your weekend !!!

The shack looks great surrounded by that barren landscape and those layers of mountians.

For me, the shot shows a time when farming was possible in the area - perhaps animals rather than crops. Now it looks incapable of sustaining animal or plant life. Curious about being fenced off. What secrets lie in that house LOL

This looks like it could be a movie set! It surely would be fun to do some exploring on that old site. The second picture adds even more flavor to the scene. It is interesting how suddenly the mountains there rise up from the flat land. Here "back east" the transition is so much more gradual..

BTW, we are finally seeing some sunshine!!!

The building looks in rather good shape for its apparent age . . except for the windows (shot or blown out?) . . . even the ladder inside is still standing. Interesting shot since it is fenced in the way it is! Nice to see wide open spaces like this -- nothing like that around here.
