Schoolgirls in rainy Shibuya, Tokyo

Schoolgirls in rainy Shibuya, Tokyo

Two schoolgirls walk from Shibuya JR station into Shibuya's center gai via the Hachiko crossing. A busy street lined up with shops, restaurants, bars and other such places.

I love shooting pictures in the rain :)
Too bad I didn't get the guy in the right fitted into the compostion; but oh, can't have it all if you're shooting from the hip now can ya ?

Amongst a sea of youth in Takeshita Dori - Harajuku, Tokyo

Amongst a sea of youth in Takeshita Dori - Harajuku, Tokyo

Takeshita Dori, is a pedestrian-only street lined with fashion boutiques, cafes and restaurants in Harajuku in Tokyo, Japan.

Mostly a paradise for the youthful Tokyo-ites to shop; as such this capture provides a nice contrast between this older lady, and the youthful sea of shoppers behind her.

Post pro: I wanted to grab a quick shot, but my settings were on manual for a totally different earlier exposure. As such it was under-exposed by about -2 1/3 EV (ouch!) but luckily the noise by raising the exposure in post-pro didn't turn out TOO bad.

The dance Pt.2

The dance Pt.2

Shot of an amazing dancer at Tokyo big sight during Design Festa Vol.34

I normally am not the type to sit and watch this type of interpretive/artistic dancing - but I was so impressed by her performance that aside from taking a handful of shots I just put the camera down and enjoyed :)

Luna Noctiluca - Take five!

Luna Noctiluca - Take five!

Luna taking a short break during a shoot on Odaiba, an artificial island in Tokyo bay whilst I change equipment to compensate for moving spots.

When I was ready, she seemed lost in tought whilst looking back to the Tokyo mainland; great opertunity for an impromptu snap of the shutter!
That's rainbow bridge in the background, there's a pedestrian road on it you can walk. Stunning view

Shibuya, Tokyo - Sensory overload

Shibuya, Tokyo - Sensory overload

Shot in center gai; a busy street in Shibuya, Tokyo; where the hip walk around to see and be seen, shop till they drop. Countless of lights and huge screens advertise sales and the latest, greatest wear. Sales reps of shoe or clothing stores shout their latest offerings and if that wasn't enough there are always many people on the prowl trying to talk you into their bar.

Yes, Tokyo can be quite the sensory overload; even to people who are accustomed to other large cities.
Thankfully, Tokyo is such a diverse city that you can find yourself in busy, hectic area's such as these one moment, and another moment you're in a tranquil park; enjoying your boxed lunch or meal whilst watching a tea ceremony.

This, brutally intense diversity; and it's cinematic nature (every photo in Tokyo I take may as well come from a movie) is the reason why I love this city; and go back to it several times a year.

Having said that; it does feel good going trough pictures behind my desk instead of cramping behind my laptop in a small Tokyo hotel room :-)

Anyway - Spot metered the face, upped the exposure on the reading by 0.7 for the "glow"
