can be recognized much better now.

It took for-ever to load the huge preview
poster, but it was worth it! It was
wonderful looking around and seeing online
friends and seeing the little clusters people
talk about. Thank you GustavoF for making us
all proud and happy to be *here*.

OK, now that is seriously nifty.
Now we need to turn the poster into a giant
imagemap that links to each user's profile
page.

It's a bit more complicated than a single
cutoff. See the first description of the algorithm, though I tweaked it a bit, and added some
overrides...
The main idea was to produce the most
meaningful graph possible in terms of network
structure (not just three main clusters), and
include as many people as possible, without
the icons becoming too tiny to view.

Hello GustavoG,
I have been trying to read through posts of
all you flicrland pictures to learn about
your studies… It is very facinating and the
question I have left is… if you would be
willing to share more details about how you
gather your data, and do your analysis?
I understand that all the data is puplic
available and that you use a perlscript to
crawl through the data… but I would like to
understand the details of this works.
I ask because I am about to write my thesis
at the IT-University of Copenhagen about
online social networks – and your work is
probably the most interesting I have found on
the subject so far.
Kind regards
Carsten

i was looking at this for ages and kept
spotting people whose photos i love looking
at and thinking it was cool. then i realized
that it wasn't the people i knew who made it
special but the massive amount of people i'm
yet to know.

It's a supremely awesome achievement,
Gustavo, well done.
The fact that there was an algorithm behind
the selections and networking analysis means
that I can deal with my absence through the
fun of exploring the links between all the
people I'm contacts with who ARE in there!
Well done.

Sorry for two comments in a row, but you
inspired me. :-)
Might be cool to do one of these monthly
and at the end of the year create an
animation to "watch" clusters
appear and grow over time.

I am indeed collecting network data monthly.
Based on them I'm starting to do some
analyses of change over time.
It would be beautiful to see the network
change, but since the layout can vary a lot
in each run to accomodate the data, most
chances are that successive graphs could look
very different from each other. I wouldn't
count on making a "time lapse"
movie. :)

This is incredible Gustavo! even more
incredible because I thought of the idea this
morning and was going to add it in the Flickr
ideas space, but didn't know how to describe
it (a kind of visiual map of relationships
throughout flickr), now it is even more
amazing that I found this (thanks to you
visiting my workstream) on the same day?!
what a strange strange conincidence!!
Now.. how did you achieve that? that's the
other reason I didn't enter it this morning,
I thought I lived in fantasy world and that
it couldn't (or not easily at least) be
done.. INCREDIBLE!!!! :)))

I once saw a video of how a Wiki page set
evolved over time - if you get enough
snapshots of this and are able to provide
some continuous transitions we could
see...something beautiful I'm sure. Like

Three-dimensional creativity is very real.
Messages more than I have seen many wonderful
pictures that talk about this kind of
photography special is classified as one of
the most difficult types of photography,
especially taking a picture of many planets
in one frame
