Pencil Crayons / Coloured Pencils. I was going to try something with the figurine today, but it wasn't in the cards for me, so went on with another idea I had. This worked out, though a suggestion for anyone who wants to do something similar:
Have more than 12 of them. Seriously. This had to be cropped, even with it being a 1:1 macro. Just not enough pencils to add visual density.
But yeah, I used all 3 tubes here. I started with the Jupiter 9, but even less filled the frame, so I switched to the Helios 44 and got better results. The real bitch is trying to get the lens level to the pencils.
I stopped down right to F16 here; otherwise I'd have only a single millimeter for my DOF. It's not much more (4-5mm?), but significant in terms of a macro. A lens which can stop down significantly further would help with this.

Focus Stacking would have helped here, to get the wood in focus as well; I just wasn't about to spend the time tonight ;)
