Lake Manyara

Lake Manyara

An incredible vantage point near the base of the escarpments of the great rift valley offered a wonderful view down over the forest canopy and on towards the dry beds of Lake Manyara.

The heat haze was so intense that when I first looked at the image I thought it was out of focus but I soon learned that distant shooting in the midday African sun was always going to be a difficult task!

Vervet Monkey

Vervet Monkey

These cheeky chaps were running all over the roof of our lodge at Rivertrees and were quite good posers in the morning light!

Verreaux's Eagle-Owl (Bubo lacteus)

Verreaux's Eagle-Owl (Bubo lacteus)

Claimed to be the world's third largest owl (with a wingspan of up to 2m), a pair of these stunning birds were roosting high in the trees of our first safari lodge near Arusha.

Mt Meru, Tanzania

Mt Meru, Tanzania

After a long period of Flickr-free existance I'm finally back in the land of photography.

A busy (but fun, fun, fun) last couple of years have put pay to any photography activity online but fortunately, at least I like to think so, I haven't stopped shooting when I have had the opportunity!

This is the first of a set of images taken on my honeymoon in Tanzania and marks the beginning of an incredible journey through some of the most stunning, vast landscape imaginable - not to mention the wildlife! Which, as a landscape photographer, was a pretty challenging task to photograph!

Thanks for looking.

Dan

Winter - Castle Cornet

Winter - Castle Cornet

One more from this morning for now. My personal favourite so far.

What is difficult to see here is just how bitter and strong the wind was on the end of the castle emplacement.

I also had to wait for a sizeable blizzard to stop before I could take the exposure!

(Replaced due to wonky horizon)
