A 1000-foot long lake freighter glides effortlessly on Lake Superior. This freighter is probably on the first leg of its journey west through the Great Lakes. NIN34 has identified this freighter as the Columbia Star.

i believe that is the Colubia Star. This company also owned the Fitzgerald, while the Colors of the boats have not changed. this boat looks nothing like the fitzgerald did

Thanks NIN, I really had no idea what this freighter was--I thought it was impossible to tell from this distance. And I figured all lake freighters look similar, so in my mind this is what the EF looked like. obviously they're all different and unique. Thanks for the info!!

The only way i know how to tell is that the Oglebay Norton Company had 2 1000ft boats made for them. one was name the Colubia Star, and the other was the Oglebay Norton. Looking closely the 2nd part of the name is short, so its had to the the Star. while there are some that are basicly cookie cutter boats, there are some like the fitz that were differnt and unique. if you look online you can find alot of pictures of the fitzgerald. Sadly though in 2006 Oglebay Norton sold the remaining Vessles in there fleet ending over a a century of company history. Her and most of her fleet mates now sail for the American Steamship Company under new names
