This residential round house, in Little Thetford, Near Ely, is a Grade II listed building. According to Simon Knott, this is a "...charming 18th century gothick (sic) folly.". Hmmm. I am not so sure but then, I am no expert. It has, er, been snowing. See the same building without the snow. Behind us is the 14th century St. George's church.

I believe that 'gothick' is the correct spelling for this style of post-medieval architecture before the Ecclesiologists, like Pugin, revived formal Gothic in the 1830s and 1840s. It's quintessential language can be seen at Strawberry Hill in south-west London, and in that riotous form is often known as "Strawberry Hill gothick". The Round House at Little Thetford is obviously quieter and much more rustic, a mood sometimes found in churches restored in the 18th century.
This is a super shot of one of my favourite buildings. I fondly remember sitting on the doorstep here eating an ice cream - I must have been about three years old. My granny was a friend of the couple who owned it then, back in the 1960s. No snow on the ground then!

WOW. Just WOW.
Thank you @Simon K for adding an interesting dimension to this image. Thank you also for drawing my attention to the Crook et al distinction between Gothic and Gothick. Do you know, I learn something new everyday. I must therefore apologise to Simon Knott - which, coincidentally, I believe is you, my friend - for my gross lack of education and subsequent research.
My own village is full of history. My oh my.
Edit by Grytr: Cool. Horace Walpole's Strawberry Hill. I love Flickr. I am learning all the time.

lol! @Grytr - the Jim Cornwell on the war memorial is my uncle.
Please don't apologise - the great thing about flickr is that it is a debate, and we all have our opinions. btw, the link from my name in your reply is to a website by Ben Colburn and Mark Ynys-Mon, not by me! I'm at www.norfolkchurches.co.uk - and Suffolk too.

Mea culpa. ROFL - not my day is it! I will leave my error this time as your reply nicely fixes it. If I make the correction, your reply does not make sense :)

Gorgeous picture! I love the color of the sky and the sharpness of the tree on the left-hand side. (Seen in "The World Through My Eyes" "I Spy" game)

So nice to see its original glory. I'm not a fan of the spike that sits atop now, and the black lights on each of the windows
