Newton by Eduardo Paolozzi

Newton by Eduardo Paolozzi by grytr.
This statue was shot outside the British Library in London, United Kingdom. It is a statue by Eduardo Paolozzi of Isaac Newton from a painting by William Blake.

The inscription reads...
'NEWTON' after William Blake by Eduardo Paolozzi 1995
Grant aided by The Foundation for Sport & the Arts. Funded by subscriptions from the football pools, Vernon, Littlewoods, Zetters.

The picture has had some treatment. Specifically, I replaced the sky as it was an overcast day.

I did not have the same luck with the sky. Last time I took a shot of it London was freezing and the pic was a little bit dark. I posted it anyway. I am glad I´ve found this to fave!

Just to be clear Zelnunes, it was not luck. I replaced the sky in photoshop. It was a very grey day. Than you for the fave. It is appreciated.

Well you have done an excellent job of replacing the sky, I couldn't tell.

And the camera never lies, eh?

I like the composotion and the minimalism of this, maybe it would be nice if the lower edge would be straight.. it's a good shot nevertheless.. like it..

Now we're talkin Photoshop, YA, lovin it. Let this be a lesson in how you can't believe everything you see on Flickr, and in how it DOESN'T MATTER if the sky was really blue at that moment. It's blue now. If not for the full disclosure, we wouldn't question it.

Wow! Thank you all for your praise. I am overwhelmed. This is truly undeserved IMHO. This debate could rage on, I can see.

I happen to be a purist at heart. I have been involved in photography, as a committed amateur, for more years than I care to try and recall. I have been steeped in the smell of fixer; I have spent hours cropping, dodging and burning in the enlarger room - only to find a stray hair on all the photos on the drying drum. I absolutely love the comparative ease that digital processing brings. Somehow, even through all that, I really do admire the skills necessary to get it right in camera. This is what I personally strive for.

Sure, I have the skills (he says modestly) necessary to rescue a photo - as in this one and, erm, this. Yes, I can clone, blend, layer, mask, straighten, montage, solarise, blur, lens-adjust, perspective etc. I just get immense personal satisfaction from in-camera work, such as this.

I do happen to believe (and this is personal) that it is a greater crime to pass off a photo, directly or indirectly, as not treated.

I will continue to identify my treated work.
