Wing of a dragonfly, detail

The wing shows a interesting structure: there are cells with a certain angle (120° and 90°). The structure is the same you can see, when you put foam between two glass plates. (Lit.: Hildebrandt, S: Mathematics and optimal form; Deutsche Ausgabe S. 5)

A long, long time of progress I don´t think there is any hazard in this texture! Maybe you´r right that there is a connection with the foam bubbles? The nature often repeat some very useful good mathematic basic pattern.Oh! I nearly forgot...Nice and interesting photo !!

So this looks like a related variation of the pattern of the symphytum leaf - but perhaps the likeness is superficial, the polygons in this wing do get smaller towards the edge, but there is not the obvious fractality - and the veins don't close back in towards the centre.

gorgeous, gorgeous. i have always loved the stained glass accuracy of the platelets of insect wings, and you have done a good job of capturing it.
