Mirror Mirror

Getting ready for our trip down to the lakes this weekend, I thought I'd process one of the blue hour shots from my last trip. The lake was fabulously still that day, allowing me to get fab reflections.

This was a bit of a departure for me, since it was shot on a Tamron 90mm f2.8 rather than my normal wide angle.

Clarity

Clarity

I knew this morning was going to be cloudless and that it was pretty much bang on low tide, so decided to avoid the coast and head inland to see whether the cold nights led to some good frost.

Hadrian's Wall seemed the perfect spot, so I headed up to Housesteads and set up. I've never watched the sun come up over this part of the country before, and it was a beautiful sight....although by this time, my nose was about ready to drop off from the cold wind.

After catching the sunrise, I did a quick walk along the wall to Sewingshields Crag then back to Brocksbushes for a pot of tea and bakewell slice. By 10:30 I was back home having had a morning's photography, a good bit of healthy exercise and an excellent cake. Can't get better than that!

Lookout

Lookout

A lovely, if brief, display of colour this morning at Seaton Sluice in the company of a full contingent of flickr buddies.

I've had this shot in mind for a while now, as the snaking lead in line of the fence was too good an opportunity to pass up. Think I need some better light (and possibly some snow to hide the ugly mud!) to make the best of it, but pretty pleased with the way the composition worked out.

Time To Reflect

Time To Reflect

Last of the shots of the gorgeous morning light from Ullswater, this time including one of the boats tied up at the steamer jetty at Glenridding.

Mirror Mirror

Another from Sunday's 5 minute window of colour at Ullswater. I've never seen the lake quite this still before which allowed me to get perfect mirror reflections of the sky.

For a change, this wasn't taken with my 10-20mm but with a Canon 50mm f1.8 as I tried to get a bit more detail from the distant peaks than the wide angle allows.
