I fear the last weekend was the last time this year I get to face fresh snow. It's kinda funny, this picture shows similar conditions as my last black&white winter images. But I had much more effort for post-processing here. Too bad I still miss the plasticity on the surface and structure. I puzzled over the reason, I think the backlight is more direct here.

Aufnahmeort: Skiegebiet Brandnertal in Vorarlberg Austria.
Es ist der letzte Tag der Skisaison 10 Uhr 9. April 2011. Zu sehen ist
ein kleiner Teich der zur Versorgung für die Skiekanonen verwendet
wird. Die Kraft der Frühjahrssonne lässt die Schnee- und Eisdecke des
Teichs schmelzen, dieser normale im Winter nicht sichtbar ist. Am Tag
davor hat es frischen Pulver geschneit, das Ufer zeit eine Schneehöhe
von 1m.
Die wechselnde Lichtstimmung und das Motiv vom Teich hat mich zu
diesen Bild inspiriert. Dank dem abfallenden Ufergelände konnte ich
den Einsichtwinkel auf den Teich nach meinem Wunsch komponieren. Die
Uferlinie soll den Blick wie in einem Schneckengang zum Seeauge
führen. Weiters zeigen die Eisflächen am linken Rand auch in Richtung
Teich. Der Teich dient als Vordergrund. Das Bild ist gestaffelt in
mehrere Ebenen das den Blick in die Tief zieht. Der Teich gesäumt vom
Waldrand, dahinter leuchtet frischer Schee vom entfernten Gebirgszug,
das in ein Tal mündet. Die Wolkendecke die dunkel am Rand beginnt
lichtet sich in auch in die Entfernung und verstärkt den Effekt der
Tiefe.
Bei der Nachbearbeitung hab ich speziell auf Strukturen im Vordergrund
geachtet, was die Randlinie der Schneedecke hervorhebt. Speziell die
Lichter im Himmel und auf dem Schnee erforderte zusätzliche Feinarbeit
um sie dort zu drosseln wo nötig. Als Tool hab ich NIK Silver Efex 2
verwendet um Strukturen und Lichter partiell zu tunen.

The foreground big circle, the circle within the circle and the reflection within the circle make a sublime composition of great complexity and apparent simplicity. Great editing work too, close to a graphical effect that became one of the most recognizable features of your landscape works. One of my favorite favorites from the first time I looked at it.

These is so much to view here and keep the eye busy. Your composition skills are second to none Gregor. Your floral images show softness and delicacy very well. These images are on the other end of the spectrum. The high contrast monochrome is beautiful. I enjoy the texture in the prior post but the composition here is my favorite.

An accidental visit .. and I sit and look at this long and hard. The line and lake spiralling in to the centre, those rugged mountains and the echo of their shapes in the trees ... the texture of fresh snow. It all makes for a black and white image that will still in the mind long after I leave .
