Transparent Butterfly

Newer Older

A transparent butterfly, shot in the Washington DC Smithsonian museum of natural history, in their live butterfly exhibit.

I desaturated the yellow tile the butterfly was standing on because it was a bit distracting. I think it looks kinda cool showing only the little bit of color on the butterfly as well as the pink background flowers.

Shot with a 100mm macro and canon 50D. I used a custom made flexible flash bracket to hold my 580exII to the side with an OC-E3 cord. Instructions and pictures of the flash bracket can be found here: quiglag.com/2007/03/30/diy-flexible-flash-bracket.

FYI, this is apparently a Nymphalidae Ithomiinae, aka a Glasswing
