An early morning shoot on the north-west corner of the Forbidden City, Jingshan Park is visible on the left hand side.
This was our second day in Beijing, having walked past the day before and scouted out a good location for sunrise. We’d done a whole lot of walking that day in fact; all the way around the outside of the Forbidden City, through Tiananmen Square and back along to the National Centre for Performing Arts, before spending a large part of the night exploring the hutongs of Beijing.
An hour and a half sleep and we were up and walking back to this spot ready for the sun to come up. Fortunately it was worth it, with fantastic light over the city. It also meant we were (almost) first in line for visiting the Forbidden City itself, which is a ‘must see’ but gets hugely crowded by about mid-morning.
