A very special thank you...

A very special thank you... by Green Wellies.
Last year, my niece Bronwynne (Jayne's daughter) went to Thailand when she was nineteen to volunteer at the Baan Dada Children's Home. Her plan was to stay for three months, but she ended up staying for nine. She returned to Canada to work for a year and is now back in Thailand attending the university in Bangkok. Every chance she gets, she goes to spend time with the children.
Recently, the call went out for help in funding rabies vaccine for everyone, including Bronnie. My neighbours pitched in and we transferred funds to the home via their website and paypal.
For a year now, I've been buying clothes at the thrift store and sending boxes of them to Baan Dada. The shipping costs of fifty to eighty dollars is more than the clothes are worth, but I feel as though every penny I spend is helping the children.
Tonight, Bronnie sent photos of a thank you card from the children to me. I feel so grateful to be able to help out in such a small way and the children's smiles mean the world to me. You can read more about Baan Dada here...

What a wonderful niece, Barb! You must be so proud of Bronwynne. Does Jayne worry about her living over there? My nephew and his wife spent some time in Thailand last year working in the schools but they were with their church group and were safe.

It's so good of you to send thrift clothes for the children, Barb. When we visited Eleuthera (Bahamian out island) after living there for 5 months one year, I always packed baby and children's clothes and lots of Tshirts. Some Canadian nuns cared for the Haitians there. The Bahamians employed the Haitians to do their work but they were still desperately poor since they sent all their money home to family in Haiti. Our friends moved away so we stopped going before I realized that shoes and hats were things the kids rarely got.

So much need out there but some of it is matched with good hearts here. ♥

Donn...we are all so proud of Bronwynne. She's always been very independent and forged ahead in life, swimming in the ocean every day, even in winter, getting her Red Cross Lifesaving certificate, completing high school early and wanting to get out into the world.
I can honestly say that I don't think Jayne has ever worried about her at all, apart from the emergency landing in Tokyo on her way back to Thailand in August!

To read first-hand about Bronwynne's adventures and life with the children at Baan Dada, living on her own and attending university in Bangkok, she has a blog...

I just read some of your nieces blogposts. She is a very brave and outstanding person. Taking such a life changing direction with only 19 years is simply remarkable. Leaves me with some questions to myself.

Sandra...the story of her past year and a half is truly inspiring. She's travelled around villages with an eye doctor, taken children from the home for medical appointments by train to Bangkok and worked on their website. She is going to make a difference on this planet.
