Who says CFLs are ugly?

Who says CFLs are ugly? by Greenpeace UK.
An interactive garden of dimmable energy efficient bulbs at Earls Court's 100% Design exhibition. The installation, which responds to people's movement through "touch pads", is a collaboration between Greenpeace and top designer Jason Bruges.

Greenpeace UK  Pro User  says:

I don't have the figures to hand for how much mercury CFLs contain (but normal incandescent bulbs are probably responsible for more mercury emissions than CFLs; burning coal for electricity emits mercury, and incandescents use much, much more energy).

Also, the mercury in CFLs can be recycled and, now that CFLs are covered by the 'WEEE directive', retailers should be providing facilities to take them back once they've expired. (Although to be honest I've only seen signs that Currys and Ikea have started doing that so far).
