It amazes me all the trash in the world when your eyes begin to open...same here in Colorado in the USA...every state here has it's millions of tons of trash seen & unseen...taking a train across the USA it was shocking...just to think we are a bit tidier here on the Northern Hemisphere...seems like recycling has lagged way behind in the industrial waste sectors...it has come a long way but so much is toxic in the long term...plastics yes have become almost a DISEASE...great observation on your part...nice shot...

BBC Science News has been following plastic waste found on a Pacific island recently. you can find online video that they aired on BBC World News last week here news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7316441.st m

clip -

"Plastic waste challenge on Pacific island

Plastic waste in the oceans poses a potentially devastating long-term toxic threat to the food chain, according to marine scientists.

Studies suggest billions of microscopic plastic fragments drifting underwater are concentrating pollutants like DDT.

Most attention has focused on dangers that visible items of plastic waste pose to seabirds and other wildlife.

But researchers are warning that the risk of hidden contamination could be more serious."

The Earth has been facing immense pollution from our garbage and consumption. The latest deadly pollution is plastic bags that fill up the landfills. With plastic bags becoming a growing concern, cotton canvas bag has become the new way to help stop the pollution.
With plastic bag pollution being a rising concern, many shoppers need to start using reusable cotton canvas bags in order to stop the pollution.
Plastic bag pollution is very deadly and takes hundreds of years to break down. Even if the component is broken done, the deadly chemicals will go into the ground and water system. By reducing the usage of plastic bag, Earth can recuperate. That's why cotton bags should be used world wide to help reduce the pollution.
It is our generation to stop the pollution and start using cotton canvas bags as the solution. With global warming going out of hand from gas exhaustion, we don't need any more problems especially plastic bags that are harmful when broken down naturally. These broken down elements cause sickness and destruction to the air, soil and water system.
Use cotton canvas bags starting today as a way to stop the plastic pollution that is becoming a major threat to the environment. Our lives are threatened ever more from the growing usage of plastic bags. It is time you bring a canvas bag to shopping the next time you go to a supermarket.

surasura, you're preachng to the converted here. It's not only plastic bags, but all plastic use that needs to be addressed. From production (oil product) to recycling and beyond. Actually, the first step is reduction of use. Then there's the issue of toxins in plastics used in metal cans for food storage, toxins in plastics used for toys, medical equipment, household & entertainment. It's in every aspect of our lives. Thanks for stopping by!

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Plastic Is Rubbish, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

I have also blogged this photo to illustrate what plastic does to the environment. For this reasonI boycot plastic disposables and source biodegradable alternatives – see www.plasticisrubbish.wordpress.com

Love your blog, plastic_is_rubbish! Love the homemade hairgel ideas, among other more pressing issues. I have a recipe I'm going to try soon. Will look more closely, now that I've been stroked via having my photo used at Leave Only Footprints.

What a great name & pool you have started here on Flickr. Thanks for your energy & dedication! :)
