Wilson NC - Resident student Judith Urias, 18, makes her way navigating to and from the bus station as part of the Orientation and Mobility Training program with the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf. Urias, who is also deaf, is partially blind with cataracts and uses a cane to assist her with walking. The Orientation and Mobility Training program, with learning assistance from a dedicated instructor, gives deaf and blind students a chance to become part of their community and lets recipients gain hands-on travel experiences in a variety of settings. Camp Charles_Gray Whitley_5349

Camp Charles_Gray Whitley_5349

Bailey NC - Arnie Formo, Boy Scout leader and camp elder, stands near marked trees at the Little Bear campsite at Camp Charles, November 9, 2011. Formo opposes a planned clear-cut at Camp Charles and feels it's important to keep the integrity of the woods for all generations to learn from and enjoy. Advocates say that a practice of clear-cutting by the Boy Scouts of America and the East Carolina Council defeats an ethic of conservation and will destroy the natural beauty of the area. The Boys Scouts of America say the money gained from the sale of reserve timber will help financially support the organization. (Photo by Gray Whitley)
