Excellent! But cut out the original. Keep it
mysterious-no explainations. Most artists
know your source anyway and the others won't
understand, not really.

I agree. Your Madame X stands up nicely all
by herself.
I love your version! Beautifully done.

An instant fav. (You need to fix the glove on
her relaxed, left arm (problem is visible in
the large image). Also, a bit of brown
"paint" is visible on the lower
glove of the lifted right arm.
I hope this one might win.

thanks for all the kind words.
I'm having so much fun doing these (and
wallowing in real work avoidance.)
each time I check the pool, I'm blown away
at the ingenious takes on it that people come
up with, incredibly clever and well done
stuff. (I'm sure there will be a flood of
entries in the last few minutes, artists
being the procrastinators they are.) I'm
really curious to see which be chosen, there
are well over 20 really great ones.
kind of like oscar night, I'm making a list
of nominees :-)

Awesome!
But shouldn't her dress strap have fallen
down a bit?

wow, good call, you know your stuff!
it was painted over, too risque.
here is a picture of it before it was
painted over, discovered 100 years after it
was painted..

I especially love this...
'As originally exhibited, one strap of her
gown had fallen down Gautreau's right
shoulder, suggesting the possibility of
further revealment; "One more
struggle", wrote a critic in Le Figaro,
"and the lady will be free".
(Perhaps unknown to the critic the bodice was
constructed over a metal and whalebone
foundation and could not have possibly
fallen- the shoulder straps were
ornamental).'
glad you brought that up, it was really
interesting to read more about the piece.
(btw -east bay rocks!)

Thanks for the interesting links.
Since I've visited the Met in november 06,
I was amazed by the painting and little story
behind it.
Encore bravo for your work.
