Horizon gone

Horizon gone by Today is a good day.
It was actually much more dark that the image indicates...you can see the flash reflected off of the crew's kit.

I really like the orange glow off of the Storm Sail at the front, the way the spray is blurred across the bow and the angle of heel on the boat. It was getting a bit serious now!!!

Yes - the camera was in a waterproof housing. We had two - my own Coolpix and the "official" Sony camera. Both of the housing worked great - but you had to remember to put silica gell crystals inside or they steamed up.

a bit serious, yes -- that's quite a bit of heel you've got going on!!

I love these pix!

The sailor nearest the camera looks weirdly relaxed. I'm never convinced that sitting on the rail makes any difference - the weight of the wind in the sail is astounding.

@hockadilly. We have long debates about that. With the wind being as strong, we doubt it makes much difference, BUT - it's more comfortable to sit there!!! :-)

@seeA / niklens - not so scary. these boats were designed to sail round the world...and we were all attached with safety lines.

I love sailing in rough weather. That's when it's the most fun!

You guys could have used my husband. 6'6" (1.98 meters) and 330 pounds (149.7 kg). He used to race for fun. Nothing like this, though.

Did you take any natural light shots to show what it was really like as darkness closed in? tricky I know but flash is very distorting as you say.
