Chemotherapy Port for Cancer TreatmentMy port scar.
![]() I was diagnosed with stage III/IV Hodgkin's Disease (aka Hodgkin Lymphoma) on February 14, 2007. I also had SVC syndrome at the time. I had a 14 cm left-sided abdominal mass and multiple bulky masses in my chest.

Hodgkin's Disease is treated with chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is typically given through an intravenous catheter called a mediport. Because most people have never seen a mediport and I grew tired of explaining it, I took a picture. This is what a mediport looks like when it is accessed to be used for chemotherapy. Normally, all you can see is a scar on my chest when it isn't hooked up. My port is pediatric sized because my chest masses were too large to allow a full-size adult port. Hello,
I've been diagnosed with Hodgkin's just over a week ago. I start chemotherapy on the 9th of december, and I'm guessing I'll be well-acquainted with this charming device soon enough. I want to thank you for sharing these photos with the world. It's incredibly meaningful to find something such as this. Thank you.
