domestic bliss

This is going to be the year we free ourselves from the tyranny of store-bought sandwich bread.

And possibly also deli meat and cheese. One step at a time. Ross did experiment with making patties out of besan (chickpea flour) today. They were only partially successful -- but they point the way to the future.

This bread, on the other hand: 100% success. It was our third sandwich bread try, and it was lucky. The secret was patience and more kneading. That's always the secret, isn't it?

Sarah took this with her Land camera and a bulb flash on Monday night (which seems like a million years ago already). We were all impressed by the quality of the indoor flash photography she can get out of that thing.

We spent the afternoon at Z & H, whose virtues I have already extolled. They are opening up a new location this spring RIGHT DOWNSTAIRS and ACROSS THE STREET from us. This is wonderful! And dangerous. Mostly dangerous. No, mostly wonderful.

While we were there this morning I overheard several cheese-geek conversations going on between the cheese guy and eager customers. I aspire to have one of those conversations someday.
