i550 slide out HMC consoleMost of the production i550's with the slide out console open to a green screen. The racks are 6 feet tall and right at 2’ wide. We actually keep all 8 console sessions on that slide out HMC console, it’s a lot like multiple 5250 client access windows – except the HMC’s themselves really run LINUX. If you’ve every tinkered with LINUX and installed the client access for Linux, you’ll see exactly what these 5250 sessions look/act like. Uploaded on Aug 5, 2009 high availability (ha) i550This is the same HA system with the front of them open. There are 8 disk drives in the main processor unit and the unit on the left houses the other 12 drives. The one on the left is basically the desk side version of the 0595 I/O drawers on the i550.. Uploaded on Aug 5, 2009 high availability (ha) i550This is the HA system. It’s two separate units due to the number of disk drives. Those black lines (like under the box on the left) are the edge of the floor tiles. We have 2’ square floor tiles in the data center so that will give you an idea of what size these really are. Uploaded on Aug 5, 2009 CEC unit (i550)The “CEC” unit of the i550. CEC stands for “Central Electronics Complex” It’s the section in the center of the picture and contains the 4 processors, all the memory, the DVD drive (switch-able between partitions) as well as the two HMC units. The HMC’s are the two identical looking slim components that are a couple inches (?) tall? They are right under the small green LED window. That window is where all the IPL codes and the “01 B” display – BUT it only displays for the CEC unit (think of the old partition ZERO if you ever dealt with LPAR systems in the past). None of the individual partitions have the status window you can see on the hardware – you have to get on the HMC console to find those Uploaded on Aug 5, 2009 back of i550 systemThis is the back of the box. As you can see the cable mess the system hides. The small square box on the top left is the standalone 3580 tape drive. It also is a switch-able resource (and is attached to the 0588). This is the only direct attached tape drive on the entire footprint. The nearly empty rack to the left of the i550 is just a convenient storage place for external modems. The closed rack on the right is where the YRC Logistics model 525 is housed. It’s contains a CEC unit and a single 0595 drawer. Uploaded on Aug 5, 2009 |
