Anatomical Heart

This is the vasculature of an actual heart (porcine heart, identical to human heart). The blood is replaced by a plastic substance which fills all of the veins, capillaries, etc, then the heart is put into a solution that dissolves all the tissue, leaving this incredible detail of a heart. My boss was given this to use as a model (he is a cardiologist).

This is awesome... I had no idea how MANY veins and capillaries we have! This looks like a beet with all its roots still in tact.

great subject, could perhaps have done with a touch more definition against the background colour

      Interesting, but scary too...

Yea, I'd reshoot this with stronger and more even lighting with a white background. It starts at the top as greyish and turned red at the bottom which distracts with your main subject.

      Amazing detail...

I agree with Realkuhl. This was hard to understand, and with the lighting adjusted, it might be clearer.

I really like the form of the shot and even though a different background would have improved it, it's still a unique shot for Flickr

Now this is way cool stuff to see, you cant see this detail even in dissection.

I like the subject and its uniqueness. I don't care for the gradient background. A flat or even one that contrasted more with the foreground colors would appeal to me much more.

Creative photo but it just lacked a little something to me. I suspect it is a matter of style preference and nothing more though.

Does the description mean that it is your photo? That you took it?
The reason I ask is because this picture has gone viral and no one has a source to attribute to it and I'm desperately looking for the right person to credit. If it's yours, it's beautiful and I'd like to credit you. Thanks.

    30. Glockoma (21 months ago | reply)

Yes, it's my photo. The heart itself belongs to a friend, who is a cardiologist.

    31. kateoplis (21 months ago | reply)

Thank you. I've done my part to credit you:
      kateoplis.tumblr.com/post/9589150434/photojoj o-the-human-...

But the post already had 30,000+ notes on Tumblr, and if you do a Google search for "The human heart stripped of fat and muscle," you'll see that it has gone viral and I couldn't find a single post with the right credit.
You can also do a reverse image search on Google for more disheartning posts: images.google.com/

this is really beautiful. I am not very computer savvy but I teach human anatomy and physiology and was wondering if I could have access to use in my powerpoint on the heart.
