How's the reach of the 17-85 treating you?

It's great. I have no complaints thus far. What are you shooting with these days, Todd?

I've been giving my D90 a workout lately. I usually shoot with the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 for everyday stuff, a 50mm f/1.8 for my students, and a 55-200 for butterflies and birds. I got a couple nice bird shots today I'll be putting up this week. On one of the small potted trees outside my home a Japanese White-eye made a nest and has three eggs inside, they should be hatching this week. Unfortunately, the tree is so close to the house that the bird usually flies away whenever we open the door or the trash car comes. Also in the neighborhood a couple of Malaysian Night Herons hatched about two weeks ago. They're pretty big, the parents only come by every couple hours or so so I haven't gotten any pics of them all together, I just saw them feeding when I rode by on my bike once. A little further out, in a tree down the street near the restaurant that Cathy and I had our reception in a Taiwan Barbet has made a nest and is in and out every 15 minutes or so.

Beautiful shot! I had a shot of this bird (not sure if it is the same one) at the botanical garden!! But of course I couldn't get a close-up like this. It's really big feet I see!! :D

Blue Paint Brush,
It scared the living daylights out of me when it landed beside me. I couldn't help thinking that those glowing scarlet eyes look more than a little creepy.
