My Jazz Butcher collection nearly beats out my Husker Du collection. Actually it's a tie.
And there in the middle is the pantheon of Butcher classics: A SCANDAL IN BOHEMIA, THE GIFT OF MUSIC, and BIG QUESTIONS.
And what a chore it was, converting my vinyl versions of these albums into CD. I paid $120 on eBay for a CD copy of BIG QUESTIONS. One hundred and twenty dollars.
Other favorites are BIG PLANET SCAREY PLANET, FISCOTHEQUE, and WAITING FOR THE LOVE BUS... all three of which are highly underrated.
I have a framed Jazz Butcher poster -- it's the CONDITION BLUE cover art -- here in my home office.
The Butcher's songs can be quirky and even silly at times, but some of them are beautiful, and all of his music is, how to describe it exactly... smart.
Pat Fish, a.k.a. The Jazz Butcher, went to Oxford.
I also have the set lists from the two times (1992 and 2000) that I saw the Butcher play live. Both times were in Cambridge, MA. Both lists are in Pat's handwriting.
