John and Dick Pym in "Dumpy"on the River Exe off Topsham c.1958
Dick Pym, Bolton Wanderers and England goalkeeper on his small craft, "Dumpy" on the River Exe off Topsham, Devon c. 1958.
John Hughes (on the left), whose grandfather, also John Hughes, built houses in Bolton in the 1920s and 30s and would rent or sell them to Bolton Wanderers players. In this way a close association between the young John Hughes's father, Maldwyn Hughes, and the Pyms was established.
Maldwyn, his wife Esther (Tessie), John and his sister Kathryn often spent their holidays in Exmouth and would visit Pyms during their fortnight in Devon: hence the photo.
