My Norwegian Forest Cat

Newer Older

The Origins of the Norwegian Forest Cat are not entirely clear, but it is known that the vikings established trade routes with Turkey, and Norwegian cats show some coat colors that are common in Turkey but rare elsewhere. The Turkish Angora could certainly have given the Norwegian cat its longhaired coat.Others believe that the Norwegian is descended from the Siberian in nearby Russia, which also has a dense, long coat.

The Norwegian Forest Cat is a large, sturdy animal, with a water-repellent coat designed to withstand long, cold winters. It is a good climber and hunter, but loves to be around people and is good with children and other household pets.Outdoor cats shed their woolly undercoat in spring,at which point they need plenty of grooming to remove loose hairs. The coat comes in a wide range of colors and patterns.

Alternative Names : Norsk Skaukatt;Skogkatt;Wegie
