Hot Wheels made these, complete with opening doors. They tilted upward (what people now call "Lambo doors").
There was another outfit that made a small diecast version that I think had finer detail than the HW casting. I know I had one, but I can't remember who made it.

Hey, I don't think I was aware of the Matchbox version. The one I was thinking of was from another company. I want to say Dinky, but I could be wrong. It had a plastic X-frame with the wheels and axles attached and it came with a metal key you could use to remove the frame from the car. Mine was green like the real car and had the orange-tinted glass, too.

Corgi Rockets! That sounds right. And mine did NOT get thrown out--all my old Hot Wheels, Matchbox, etc., are in a box in the basement at Mom's. The exceptions would be any Mopars, which are now at my own place.

I love these ultra-low-profile ME exotics of the late 1960s to the mid 1970s. My favorite of all is prob, the Bizzarini Manta.
