the strangers, they are always curious. well, and why shouldn't they be? but stranger #9 was particularly wary. also, I was allowed three shots before she said, 'enough'. oh okay. I understand, I really do. thanks for letting me photograph you, stranger #9 (whose name I do not know because honestly, I didn't have the guts to ask) . and yes, I like the earrings you sold me. they're very orange. but then, I love orange.

i was HOPE-ing you'd collect at least one stranger photo whilst in sf....happy to see you did!

though, honestly...the interaction description made *me* feel a little nervous *for* you. i'm so bad with 'no' or 'enough' or any such flavoured thing.

now...heh-hem...let's see those orange ear baubles!

I love how courageous you are. You have always had the whole composition and color thing down - but this whole stranger thing is just so inspiring.

Andrea, you are so brave with your pics of strangers...
I find very difficult to shot at people I don't know, especially because here in Italy people are sort of obsessed by privacy and where-my-face-is-going-to-be-displayed-on.

i really appreciate this photo...and the story of the woman... as a woman of color, i'm particularly afraid of people exoticizing me in photos...especially when i happen to be dressed in kimono or something. at the same time, as an aspiring photographer, i think i know how to respect a person's culture and photograph it without exoticizing the subject....but it doesn't make me feel less bothered. i'm not sure that that's what she was feeling, but i know i've felt that way before.

i appreciate that you are sticking to this project... i think you capture people in a very real and respectful way....and i appreciate that you share with all of us :)

thank you so much, everyone. such thoughtful comments.... can't tell you how much I appreciate that.

dreemintrea, shot of the orange earrings... yes, coming soon! i just wore them for the first time the other day. :)

jes, hi! and thanks! not sure how courageous I am because I let so many interesting strangers (and opportunities) pass me by. because I was too chicken. but I'm trying.

coronita, I know. still, so likeable.

danika, I was originally drawn to her bright colored clothing but fell in love with the strength of her face once I got closer.

verdeanice, thanks! we do get a little bit of that here in the states. people do tend to hesitate once I ask permission to post it online. though I haven't had anyone say no. yet. :)

msquid-- firstly, thank you so much. secondly, I really really appreciate your words, your thoughts on this. because I am drawn to photograph all kinds of people but often shy away. for exactly the reasons you were talking about. I'm afraid they'll question my intentions. and with good reason. though I'm not sure how to put them at ease. it does depend so much on the situation and if it feels right, if it seems appropriate. I try so hard to be respectful, to explain (fully, though as briefly as possible) what it is I'm doing. and she was really curious as to why I was photographing her earrings. which is when I said something about pattern and color, etc. not sure she bought that. though she did let me take her photograph and I'm thankful for that. and I did understand where she was coming from which is why I stopped the moment she asked and thanked her profusely. and I bought earrings from her (which helped). I wanted them anyway, but I knew they'd help the cause. :)

animeoncesaid, I try very hard to let the subjects (and opportunities) just happen. though I am intentional about who I choose. thank you for noticing/appreciating it.

sand30, yusof, thank you!

tsillie hill dreams, awww shucks. xo

royalbuffet, yes. and I love the way they punctuate the patterns and colors in her dress. which I didn't really notice until I uploaded the photo.

This is a really beautiful photo. I especially love how the arch of her eyebrow is echoed by the curves of the pattern on her dress. The color is so vibrant too.
