Same bird, different year. There is some motion blur on this shot but it is the only one I got of him facing left. My icon used to be this bird facing right. So I thought it might be nice to use a photo of him facing left to make a new icon.

great capture I love how these birds meow. i was shocked when I first saw this bird at the Grounds for Sculpture this year, I head a cat meowing but discovered it was a bird and not a cat..

marg - I have a talent for screwing up entries to groups and understanding the rules. I think it is payback for having been one of the founders of the field guide: birds of the world group with all of its complicated rules :)

Guy, it seems like a read somewhere that they are declining. I wondered where at the time because they seem to be OK here. They are neat little birds. I love them.

Since they seem to prefer riparian or wetland habitats, I guess it only makes sense that they would be declining. Often, these declines happen from the periphery of the ranges, and aren't noticed in the heart of the range until there have already been substantial reductions in the overall population. I honestly don't know how they are doing. I live well outside of their normal range, so all I know about them is that I am always happy to encounter one. Especially if they are vocalizing!
