Flowering Quince, January 2012

Flowering Quince, January 2012

Each winter when the weather starts to warm up I make the rounds of the flowers in the neighborhood that bloom early. Today I found this white quince in full bloom, with only a few brown edges that resulted from the snow earlier this week. I'm feeling somewhat better, I think the flowers are helping!

I added a recent full moon shot to one of my York images. I can attest to York's reputation for ghosts and tried to capture that ghostly quality in some of my images. Feeling a little better but my face still has something in common with the full moon!

Capitol Hill Snowy Rooftops

Capitol Hill Snowy Rooftops

This is a photo from 2010 but last night we finally had some snow in Washington. Unfortunately, I'm confined indoors after an emergency dental procedure forced me to cancel my travel. It will be difficult to resist going out into the snow but feeling bad and freezing drizzle outside are a good discouragement.

Columbine, b&w

Columbine, b&w

This is another of my experiments with converting color photos of flowers into black and white images. Columbine flowers have such intricate and interesting shapes. I'm still experimenting with various approaches to processing these photos.

Early Bloomer--January 15, 2012

Early Bloomer--January 15, 2012

This plum tree in my neighborhood usually blooms around the first week of March. One of my memorable photos shows snow on the blossoms. Yesterday I noticed someone taking photos of it and I realized the tree was in full bloom-- by far the earliest I've ever seen this tree bloom, no doubt because of spring-like temperatures we had earlier in the week. The last two nights were below freezing and windy. I hope the blossoms survive!
