Not everyone. At least 47% of the country isn't excited at all.

If that's your excited face, I'd hate to see your expression of apathy. Nice one.

A wonderfully British statement, but not as entirely cynical as I think you'd have everyone believe P

I find it ironic that you have a wedding ring on in the picture.

If you lived in California and were gay, you would be one of 36,000 people that would have their marriages taken away due to proposition 8.

Along with California, other states such as Florida, Arizona, and Arkansas, all have voted for some discriminatory legislation this past election.

I am proud we have an African American president, but we still have a lot of things to fix.

i'm sorry, but you don't look too excited. as for toomey marriage is simply a publicized promise, it doesn't have to publicized nor permitted to or by anyone.

I think this sums it up nicely. It's wonderful that America is ready to start taking steps in the right direction, but it's also unfortunate that we had to hit bottom before we finally cared enough to do it. Better late than never, right?

And to Bruno: You must be joking. Marriage isn't just a "promise" -- it's a legally-recognized contract that bears significant consequences for the people involved. If you don't think it has to be permitted by anyone, maybe you should try filing joint taxes with a live-in partner next year.

His face seems to reflect the "morning after" that Obama might be feeling: "Yes, we can!" Oh, crap - we did, now what?!?

The US got through four years of Carter, we can make it through this as well!
