The Crooked House

The Crooked House

Originally built in 1592, the house was pulled down and rebuilt in 1718 from unseasoned green oak which caused the marked angle at which it stands. The House has a colourful history, with a secret passage in the basement which is said to have been used for illicit trysts between Charles II and Nel Gwynn. It has been a tea-room for the past 30 years.
